“On Brighter Days(she sings)”

on brighter days pictureIn just two weeks Shane Darin Page and myself will be releasing what will be the first album as Cambodia Highball. On October 8th, 2013 Cambodia Highball’s debut album, Odd Geometry, will be available for your ears and souls. Odd Geometry is the culmination of a summer of Saturday afternoon jams. Freewheeling noise and sonic explorations fueled by ice water, coffee, and the urge to make something real. Nothing contrived or planned out. We wanted to start out with a riff and drums and go from there. Add an overdub or two and then call it done. Channeling artists ranging from Miles Davis, Can, Flaming Lips, and Explosions in the Sky…to Boards of Canada, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and My Bloody Valentine. We played what we felt like playing. Not a note or sonic ping was wasted. I’m very proud of the work we’ve done on this album. In fact, it’s some of the best music I’ve had the honor of helping create.

I wasn’t going to share one more song before October, but I just couldn’t wait to let this one free. It’s one I’m quite proud of. I feel it’s a shining example of what Mr. Page and I can do in a couple hours on a overcast Saturday afternoon. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it.

This is just the beginning, folks. Get weird with us, won’t you?

  1. This song…
begins as a hopeful sapling in dappled shade. When a beam of sunlight breaks through from the east, the sapling doesn’t question the draw, and as the sun drops and beams make their way through the canopy to the tree-to-be, it does an ecstatic sun-lover’s dance.

  2. I really liked that, again. You are the tallest camelias I can think of.
Come and play the Liverpool Psych Fest next year. I’ll put Mr Page up, the creepy dude? he can sleep in the car.

  3. Woohoo! OK, I’m late to the party, but the charm has obviously not vanished. I love the cheeriness/bounciness followed by the sinus-clearing guitar/bass energy. This is road trip music which I could have used in a recent road trip. Gotta plan the next one.

    There’s a story here, I think, not a literal A-B-C story, but a felt-this-felt-that thing, I think.

And yes, there is a bit of a story here, however I’ll let you write your own story. This song is very much open to interpretation.
