Family Affair

wordpress-family-awardSo I’ve been blogging now since December of 2011.  It’s been one of the most productive and fulfilling things I ever could’ve done for myself.  I’ve always loved writing.  It’s something I think I do rather well.  But up until the beginning of, my writing was limited to songs in my basement and the occasional note on the kitchen counter.  Something like “Have a good day.  Love, J”, or “I went for a walk.  Be back soon.  Daddy”  These were what my writing experiences were limited to.  But I had things I wanted to say, yet didn’t really have an outlet for those things.  My family just didn’t want to sit and talk about what was the better Can album.  But I knew somewhere out in the universe someone did, and they even had an opinion about it!  So in December of 2011 was born, and I’ve never looked back.

Up until January of 2013 I never really was part of a community of bloggers, but things changed when David from this site came into my peripheral.  We began commenting on each others posts.  I sort of became the Paul Lynde to his Hollywood Squares.  More so than just commenting for commenting sakes, we actually really dug what each other were posting about.  From there my eyes were opened to an entire community of bloggers from across the world.  I’ve met some amazing folks that I’d never know of otherwise.  David was recently nominated for the WordPress Family Award, and in his ever-giving way he nominated me as well.  As lame as this may sound, I think this is the award that truly means the most to me(yeah, I’ve been nominated for a couple others…no big deal).  The reason it means so much to me is because family means so much to me, and these folks I’ve come to know out here in Bloggoland(I’ve copywritten that) really do feel like a family.  We support each other, we harass each other, and we give each other the elbow in the ribs we certainly deserve when we ask for it.  These are people that in what we call “reality” I’d love to hang out with and have a beer with and spin some records with.  In my book, that means a hell of a lot, kiddos.

So, my nominator Mr. Sounds Like Orange went out of his way to write some awesome stuff about his nominees.  Well, due to lack of time(laziness), I will simply list my nominees.  Every single one of these folks I’d gladly call family.  They write interesting, funny, poignant, and above all, worthwhile print.  You’d be remiss not to read them often, and with a cup of coffee sitting next to you(not too close to the computer, you don’t want to spill it…and get a coaster!)  So, here’s the specifics I was forced to mention at gunpoint…then get on down there and check these folks out.

The Rules:

  1. Display the logo on your blog
  2. Link back to the person who nominated you
  3. Nominate 10 others you see as having an impact on your WordPress experience and family
  4. Let your 10 family members know you have awarded them.

  1. Congrats! I love your blog. I thought I was an Indie Rock aficionado, but I have learned about so many new bands here. Keep up the great posts.
    Thanks for the nod, too!

  2. Congratulations J! You clearly deserve to be nominated as you write well-informed, entertaining blog posts on a regular basis.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been so prolific with Eclectic Grooves lately as critical life issues have taken precedent, but I would love it if you would nominate me for one of these awards in the future. It seems that in the past year, the audience for my blog has dwindled to the point that it became difficult to get motivated to post. Something like this could be the exposure that I need to gain interest in my blog, and in turn get my creative juices flowing again.

    Thanks for your consideration!

P.S. I am currently working on an epic psychedelic podcast that should be amazing once it’s completed.

    Best, Kevin

  3. I want to thank my annoyed friends whose disinterest in new music helped me to start a blog, also my inner egocentric maniac that kept me going despite a crazy-small readership. Last but not least, I’d like to thank you for introducing me to a blogging community that actually had something to do with music. I used to be quite reclusive when it comes to music blogging/commenting, mainly because a lot of bloggers seem pretty matter-of-fact and impersonal when writing and that’s not fun to read. So yay! We are the best!
